Washer repair in Little Elm, TX
A washer that stops halfway with a drum full of water can stall the whole house. Our local technicians repair front-load and top-load washers in Little Elm and nearby towns, find what failed and fix it in your laundry room.
Common problems
Four washer problems we get asked about in North Texas homes, especially ones with an upstairs laundry room. Try the quick check first. If it doesn't help, give us a call.
If one leg is shorter or its lock nut has backed off, the washer rocks on every spin and slowly walks out of place.
New front-loaders come with bolts that lock the drum for delivery. Left in, they make the whole cabinet jump on the first spin.
One bulky comforter or a pair of rugs can gather on one side of the drum and throw the washer around at full speed.
Rock the washer by its corners. If it wobbles, adjust the legs and tighten their lock nuts. On a new machine, check the back panel for shipping bolts.
A belt that slips on the pulley rubs itself hot and gives off a smell like burning rubber.
An overloaded drum or worn motor bearings make the motor run hot, and you notice the smell near the back of the machine.
A sock, bra wire or coin trapped behind the drum can rub on every turn and scorch.
Stop the cycle and unplug the washer. If the smell came with a heavy load, let it cool and run a smaller one. If it comes back, leave it off and call us.
The hoses behind the washer are under pressure all day. A worn washer at the fitting or a hairline crack can drip for weeks before you see it.
If the drain line in the wall is partly clogged, water overflows the standpipe during the pump-out and runs behind the washer.
The pan under an upstairs washer is the last line of defense. When its drain is blocked or the pan is cracked, the water goes straight into the ceiling.
Turn off both water valves behind the washer right away. Then look for wet spots at the hose ends and run a drain cycle to see if the standpipe overflows.
Washer valves snap shut, and the sudden stop sends a shock wave through the pipes that you hear as a bang in the wall.
When the house pressure runs high, every valve closing hits harder, and the washer is often the loudest.
These small cushions at the laundry valves absorb the shock. Old ones wear out, and some homes never had them.
Listen at the moment the washer stops filling. If the bang lines up with the fill ending, the valve and the pipes are the place to look, not the drum.
