Dryer repair in Little Elm, TX
Running a load two or three times to get it dry wastes a whole evening. Our local technicians repair gas and electric dryers in Little Elm and nearby towns, from no heat and slow drying to squealing drums and dryers that won't start.
Common problems
Four dryer problems that come up in North Texas homes, including the long roof vents many newer houses have. Try the quick check first. If it doesn't help, give us a call.
Lint loses speed on the long climb to the roof and packs into the vent cap, so the hot, damp air can't get out.
Roof vents are a favorite spot for birds and wasps in North Texas. A nest blocks the airflow almost completely.
Every elbow in the duct slows the air down. A long run from an upstairs laundry room to the roof can be too much for the blower.
Run the dryer and step outside. If you barely feel air at the roof cap, the vent needs cleaning before anything else. Don't climb on the roof yourself.
If the igniter is slow to glow hot, gas flows for a moment before it lights, and you get a short whiff at the start of the cycle.
Tired coils can open the valve unevenly, so the burner lights late or the flame flickers.
A fitting that worked loose when the dryer was moved can let gas escape. Gas line work is for a licensed plumber.
A faint smell for a second at ignition can happen. If the smell lasts or is strong, don't use switches or your phone inside. Leave the house and call 911 from outside, then Atmos Energy at 1-866-322-8667.
A roller that sat still under a heavy drum can wear flat, and you hear a thump each time the flat side comes around.
The ribs inside the drum are clipped or screwed in place. Once one works loose, it knocks with every rotation.
An uneven floor or a loose stacking kit lets the cabinet rock as the drum turns.
Empty the dryer and turn the drum slowly by hand. If a rib moves, it's loose. If the drum turns smoothly, check that the dryer sits level on all four feet.
When the air can't get out, the dryer overheats and the thermal fuse does its job by cutting the heat. A new fuse alone won't last.
This part should switch the heat off and on to hold the temperature. When it sticks, the heat stays on until the fuse blows.
A sagging or cracked element can touch the housing, run hot and take the fuse out again.
If the fuse has already been replaced once, don't replace it again until the vent is cleared. A blown fuse is a sign of overheating, not the cause.
Don't use the appliance, light switches or your phone inside. Leave the house, then call 911 from a safe distance and report the leak to Atmos Energy at 1-866-322-8667. Gas line work is done by a licensed plumber; we repair the appliance itself.
